Starting Compensation and Vacation

Starting hourly wage: $31.72/hour, plus benefits
Current top Patrolman wage: $32.41/hour, plus benefits
10 hour shifts, generally working 4 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 4 days off
11 paid holidays, pro-rated at time of hire
Total vacation earned after 1 year: 80 hours
Total annual vacation earned after 4 years: 112 hours

Information about the Fairmont Police Department

The Fairmont Police Department celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2001, and it continues to grow and change with the times. There are currently seventeen full-time licensed officers, including one code enforcement/animal control officer. The Fairmont Police Department also employs full-time licensed officers to work part-time to help fill shifts and provide security for special events. The department offers prospective candidates a wide variety of rewarding assignments and specialized positions. A lot of movement is anticipated in these positions and responsibilities in coming years, offering new candidates many opportunities.

Patrol squads and officers are well equipped. Each AWD Ford Explorer SUV squad has a laptop computer with wireless internet, video equipment, a radar unit, a P.B.T., a tint meter, a digital camera, a cell phone, spike strips, an AED, a shotgun and a first aid kit. Full-time Officers are provided with a Glock .45 handgun, a Colt M161A rifle, an X26 Taser, a vest with a ceramic plate, Mace, a Streamlight Strion flashlight, all leather gear, a winter jacket and an initial set of uniforms. 

Information on the City of Fairmont

The City of Fairmont  has five lakes within the city limits, which offer numerous recreational opportunities. There is a four pool aquatic park with activities for all ages. The city has a series of bike trails and the extensive park system allows for many different hiking trails and other outdoor activities. The city recently completed a new soccer complex, and dog park. One of the city parks offers an eighteen hole disc golf course. There are numerous golf courses in the area and one in the city limits.
